Child / Adolescent Psychotherapy
Dr. Diorio works with children who are having difficulty understanding, expressing, and/or regulating their emotions; this may present as anxiety, depression, outbursts, avoidance, and/or oppositionality. Depending on the presenting concerns of your child, Dr. Diorio may recommend individual therapy or dyadic (parent-child) treatment. Dr. Diorio strives to incorporate the child’s interests into therapy and believes that a strong therapeutic alliance is crucial for meaningful progress. She has experience using a variety of evidenced-based approaches including dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and play therapy.
Parent Guidance
In conjunction with a child’s individual psychotherapy or as a standalone service, parents can meet with Dr. Diorio for parent guidance sessions. Sessions center on psychoeducation, fostering positive parent-child relationships, understanding co-regulation, and responding to challenging behaviors. In addition, Dr. Diorio often works with parents to understand their own attachment history, which serves as an imprint for how we parent and respond to emotions.
